The singer was scheduled to perform in Lagos on 22 December 2026 as part of her global tour, but the date no longer appears on her official tour website. The development comes after calls from some Nigerians for the show to be cancelled, although Tyla herself has not publicly stated a reason for the removal.
The controversy was linked to tensions surrounding xenophobic incidents in South Africa and concerns over the treatment of Nigerians and other Africans in the country. Some fans argued that while Tyla was not involved in the attacks, her appearance in Nigeria should be reconsidered amid the wider conversation.
Among those who spoke on the matter was Nigerian Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who called for Nigeria to take a similar position after Afrobeats star Ayra Starr was reportedly denied entry into South Africa.
